The wait is over! Especially the Preaching is here, and in its first week, I’ve released an introduction episode and two full-length conversations with faithful ministers of the Word. If you haven’t tuned in yet, now’s the perfect time to jump in.
Why Especially the Preaching?
Preaching is at the heart of the church’s life. As Westminster Larger Catechism 155 teaches, God makes the reading of the Word effectual to salvation—but especially the preaching of it. That conviction has shaped my ministry, and it’s the driving force behind this podcast.
Some people hunt. Some fish. Some watch sports. I don’t really do any of those things. I help pastor a church, I spend time with my family, I write, and I make audio content. It’s my hobby. Some guys relax by sitting in a deer stand or casting a line into a lake—I relax by talking about theology, writing, and producing things like this podcast. That’s why I started Especially the Preaching.
Through this podcast, I want to highlight the ordinary, faithful work of preaching in local churches. While plenty of platforms focus on well-known names, my goal is to sit down with pastors—some you may not have heard of—and talk about their call to ministry, their philosophy of preaching, and the joys and challenges of faithfully expounding the Word.
The Introduction Episode
The first episode is an introduction to me, my story, and my goals for the podcast. I walk through my own call to ministry—from my early sense of calling, through seminary and ordination, to my current role at Covenant Presbyterian Church here in Cleveland, Mississippi. I also share my deep love for preaching, which I hope comes through in every conversation on this podcast.
In this episode, I also explain how the show will work going forward. Every episode will be freely available, but starting next week, each release will have a subscriber-only bonus segment. If you want access to these extra discussions and help support the show, you can become a subscriber for just $3/month.
Episode 1: Stephen Spinnenweber
For our first full-length conversation, I sat down with my friend Stephen Spinnenweber, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Stephen has a deep passion for preaching and a sharp theological mind.
We talked about his call to ministry, how he discovered Reformed theology, and how he landed in Jacksonville. He shared his weekly sermon preparation process, the joys of expository preaching, and the importance of knowing your congregation as you preach. There were plenty of laughs along the way, including stories about preaching misadventures (like thinking someone died in a church service).
If you want to hear a discussion full of practical insights and lively storytelling, this is an episode worth listening to.
Episode 2: David Senters
Next, I had the pleasure of speaking with David Senters, pastor of New Covenant PCA in Richmond Hill, Georgia. David has one of the more fascinating journeys into the PCA, having been raised in the Pentecostal Holiness tradition and later becoming Reformed.
In this episode, David shares how he discovered the Westminster Confession, why expository preaching changed his whole approach to ministry, and what it’s like to preach in a local church week after week. We also talked about how a pastor navigates difficult seasons—times when he feels spiritually dry but still has to stand in the pulpit and proclaim the Word.
David’s wisdom and humility shine through in this conversation, making it an encouraging listen for both pastors and church members alike.
What’s Next?
Going forward, Especially the Preaching will release two episodes every Saturday morning. Each episode will include a bonus segment exclusively for subscribers. These are special extended discussions with our guests—extra content that won’t be available in the public feed.
For just $3/month, you can support the show and get access to these bonus segments. If you enjoy the podcast and want to hear even more from each conversation, I’d love for you to join as a subscriber.
In the meantime, subscribe in your favorite podcast app, listen to the first three episodes, and let me know what you think. I’m excited about the journey ahead and grateful for all who listen.
Until next time, y’all take care.
